To Perform Windows XP Installation follow the steps:

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.
  1. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
  2. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.
  3. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
  4. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
  5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Computer installation is a collaborative term related with hardware and software installation, which in turns put life in your computer. In this blog, we would discuss how to install an operating system (XP) on a PC?

The best method to install Windows XP is to perform a clean Windows installation. It is not difficult to do a clean installation. Before you initiate the installation process, we recommend that you must check Windows XP Compatibility List to ensure that you have all the required drivers to run Windows XP. If your hardware is not in the compatibility list, you can refer your hardware manufactures website to download the drivers for Windows XP. Save all the necessary drivers in CD or USB drives before your go ahead and start the installation.

All the editions of Windows XP CD are boot-able. In order to boot from CD/DVD-ROM, you need to configure the boot sequence. Look for the boot sequence under your BIOS settings and make sure that the first boot device is configured to CD/DVD-ROM. You can then follow the given steps to install Windows XP:

STEP 1. Start your computer and insert your Windows XP installation CD in your CD/DVD-ROM drive. Your PC should automatically detect the CD and you will see a message asking "Press any key to boot from CD".
STEP 2. Press F6 if you want to install a third party Raid or SCSI driver. If you are using an IDE Hard Drive then it's not required to press F6.
STEP 3. You will then see a Windows XP Professional Setup screen. You can do a new Windows install, Repair previous install or quit. Since we are doing a new install we just press Enter to continue.
STEP 4. You find End User Licensing Agreement. Press F8 to accept and continue.
STEP 5. Next step is very important. Here, you can create the partition where operating system will be installed.
STEP 6. Choose format the partition using NTFS file system. This is the recommended file system and probably most secure.
STEP 7. Windows will now start formatting drive C: and start copying setup files.
STEP 8. After the setup has completed copying the files the computer will reboot.
STEP 9. Choose your region and language.
STEP 10. Next Type your name and organization.
STEP 11. Enter your 25 product key.
STEP 12. Name the computer, and set an Administrator password. Don't forget to write down your Administrator password.
STEP 13. Set the correct date, time and choose your time zone.
STEP 14. For the network setting choose typical and press next.
STEP 15. Choose workgroup or domain name. If you are not a member of a domain then leave the default settings and press next. Windows will restart again and adjust the display.
STEP 16. Lastly Windows will start and present you with a Welcome screen. Click next to continue.

If you want to install windows xp on your computer, before windows installation you have check list for installation.

Following Check list
  • You have the Windows XP CD.
  • You have the product key available. The product key is located on your Windows XP CD case and is required to install and activate Windows XP.
  • Your computer hardware is set up. At a minimum, you should connect your keyboard, mouse, monitor, and CD drive. If available, you should connect your computer to a wired network.
  • You have Windows XP drivers available. Drivers are software that Windows XP uses to communicate with your computer’s hardware. Most new computers include a CD containing drivers. If you do not have drivers available, Windows XP may already include drivers for your hardware. If not, you should be able to download them from your hardware manufacturer’s Web site after you set up Windows XP.
  • If you are reinstalling Windows XP on an existing computer, you need a backup copy of your files and settings. The installation process will delete all of your files. You can use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard to store your files and settings on removable media and then restore them after installation is complete.

A clean windows installation consists of removing all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and programs to an empty (clean) hard disk.

Follow the steps to install fresh windows XP on your computer

1. Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.
2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
3. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
5. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows XP Setup.

If you have successfully installed Windows XP, you are finished. If these steps did not help you install Windows XP, go to the Windows XP installation.
